Amicitia: Down
Due to security concerns Amicitia has been taken offline, and and I don't know when it'll be coming back. This page and the sidebar over there will be updated as new news becomes available. I've tried to anticipate any questions you might have, and will add more below as I get them.
Why, exactly, is Amicitia down?
There's an active attack exploiting security holes in old versions of WordPress, the system that Amicitia was based on. Amicitia used plugins that are not compatible with the latest versions of WordPress (which has the fixes for the security holes), not to mention the fact that the core WordPress system Amicitia ran on was hacked and modified. Because of this I've been unable to update the underlying system for some time now, and due to the recent attacks it's no longer safe to leave the site up.
What's not safe, exactly?
If I left Amicitia online it's possible for hackers to break in and use the site to spread spam, malware and other bad things. In addition to that they could potentially recover our passwords or reveal private information (such as private posts).
Has anything been deleted?
No. I've archived both the files and the content of the database. All the posts and comments are safe.
When is Amicitia coming back?
Good quesiton. I don't know.

If you don't know, who does know?
I don't think anyone does. The reason I don't know is related to two factors: decisions and time.
Decisions?
I have many decisions to make about the future of Amicitia. Should it continue or fade into the mists of time? If it continues, what form should it take? And so on and so forth, just have a look at the sidebar on the right. Most or all of those questions need to move into the Answered box before Amicitia can be reborn.
Time?
Amicitia has always been a side project for me, and as time goes on I find I have less and less time for side projects. That said, I know this site is important to some of you. If it's important to enough of you I'll make the effort to get it back online in some form. Probably.
So you're not even sure if there's going to be a new Amicitia?
Not entirely, no. On one hand I think Amicitia has the potential to be great, but I find myself doubting, more and more, my ability to construct something that taps said potential. As life goes on and things change I think of Amicitia more and more as a relic from the past. That's not to say that it should go away; perhaps it just needs to be refreshed in some way. I just don't know (hence all those questions on the right).
What about the files I had uploaded here?
If you uploaded files to Amicitia and are using them on other sites they should continue to work just fine, but you won't be able to upload anything new. If something that used to be here is missing please let me know (see next question for contact info).
Can I ask you a question or comment on something?
